"I'm leaving on a Jet Plane....

...Don't know when I'll be back again!"

Josh has had an exciting, yet exhausting week of flying!

A brief update on his week:

Monday: Flight #1 (in the Pensacola area)
Tuesday: flight canceled due to weather
Wednesday: Flight #2 (west into Alabama and then East into Eastern FL)
Thursday: Flight #3 and Flight #4 (A.K.A. "Out and In"- flew to Tallahassee, had lunch, flew back)
Friday: Tentative flights #5,6,7 (#5: Mobile, AL, #6 Gainesville, FL, #7 Nashville, TN)
Saturday: TBD- likely just flight planning in Nashville, TN for a departure on Sunday
Sunday: TBD (flying back to Pensacola, among other possible flights-maximum of 3)

Josh will be spending the weekend in Nashville and possibly going to the Grand Ole Opry (click the colored text for more info) if time allows!

In one week Josh will possibly have flown 10 of his 15 required flights!

It sounds like Josh will probably finish all of his requirements for this phase of flight training (A.K.A. Primary) by the middle of next week if weather allows, however, he may need to wait another week and a half for a graduation date (where we find out what happens next!)

Please keep Josh in your prayers as he flight plans, completes his flights, interacts with instructors, and interacts with fellow classmates. Please also pray for his safety while in Nashville. Josh has been keeping long hours this week and is incredibly tired- he would be blessed by your prayers for good rest and alertness while in flight and during planning. So far Josh has received great feedback from instructors who are really interested in making Josh a better future Naval Flight Officer- praise God!

...More to follow :)

Fall Fun 2009

This weekend we met up with some friends from Church and went to Whiting Field's 66 year anniversary fall event (Whiting Field is one Navy base where student pilots learn to fly- it happens to be about 45 minutes from Pensacola in Milton, FL).

After looking at some cool airplanes we watched a very sophisticated remote control airplane show- the remote control airplanes were about 5-6 feet long and modeled after various military aircrafts- they also performed many of the maneuvers that the actual aircrafts are capable of (e.g. spins, barrel rolls etc).

Randomly, we also had a chance to shake hands with Boo Weekely, a famous golfer from the Milton, FL area!

This is a T-6B- similar to the T-6A airplane that Josh is currently working with

This a MV-22 Osprey- there were many casualties in the training and development of this aircraft- it is supposed to be a transport hybrid aircraft

After having some fun on base, we headed over to a local corn maize

Wayne and Rachel (Wayne and Rachel go to our church and Wayne is currently in Pilot training at Whiting Field)

Here we are shooting a "corn cannon"

and finally a hay ride

After a pleasant day outdoors, we went back to Wayne and Rachel's to see how Teddy and Kangaroo's (Wayne and Rachel's dog) play date was. We finished it all off with Mom Albright's home-made mac n' cheese recipe and a fun game of scrabble!

Although we can't see the leaves changing color and it's not quite as crisp here as it can be in north- we were thrilled to have a day of "Fall" with some good friends.

Snuggles

Teddy experienced his first breath of cool air just a week ago on his way out the door to go potty and quickly ran back inside as if the plague was coming!

Since then, he has learned to like the cooler weather on his walks and car rides with the windows cracked. He hasn't spent much time in his doggy bed being that we got him in such warm weather, but we predicted he would cozy up to it as it got cooler out and we were right :)

Teddy has also recently discovered that he can jump up onto the couch if he gets a running start (I guess this is what pups can do when they get to be 13.5 pounds!)

Edgar on the other hand is not alarmed by the cooler air, as he is accustomed to much cooler weather in Connecticut, Pennsylvania, and Maryland. He knew exactly what to do when the cold front came on this weekend- start eating ravenously to store up some extra padding. He heard Mom and Dad whispering about argyle sweaters for Teddy but he will have none of that.
