Bicycles

We recently purchased some "Hybrid" bicycles! We have wanted some bikes for a little while and finally decided which type to get.

In addition to enjoying these bikes for strolls around the block and biking for the sake of biking, we hope to participate in a triathlon in Pensacola Beach, FL on October 3rd. The triathlon will be a little shorter than an olympic distance and a little longer than a sprint distance- all in all, much flatter terrain than Whitney's triathlon a few years ago in CT which was ranked one of the hilliest in the country!

The race should be a 600 yard swim, an 18 mile bike, and a 3.1 mile run.

It will certainly be a challenge to fit training in now that we are both working, but it should be a fun time of fitness and togetherness. Ultimately we will not train to beat a certain time, but simply to participate in the race in October without falling over afterwards :).

Speaking of work, Josh will begin a new phase of flight training, after an 8 week hiatus, on Monday, August the 3rd. This phase of flight training, "Primary", is typically about 4 months long, pending weather conditions.

The pictures taken on this particular bike ride are from a 17 mile ride along Perdido Key- there is a very wide bike lane starting in Perdido Key (Florida), which continues for many miles into Gulf Shores, AL.

We hope all is well with our family and friends- we really enjoy keeping in touch and would love to hear updates on you all as well!

Love,
Whit and Josh

Evidence of Graduation

A year after Josh's Graduation and a few months after the completion of my graduation, we have finally framed our diplomas!

We thought we'd post some pictures for family members that were not able to see them- I didn't want to unroll mine after graduation being that I had to travel back to Florida with it and Josh's has been in an envelope since he got it.

(Left side is his commissioning in the Navy and the Right side is his diploma with a degree in Systems Engineering)

(The only words in plain English are my name....good thing I know what my diploma says!)

Happy 4th!

This weekend we had a great time with friends enjoying the triple digit weather

Friday we had Lillian's Pizza at the beach with Josh's old Naval Academy roommate and his fiance

(Dave and Kate)

Saturday morning we got up early enough to try to play some golf in the "cooler" weather (85 and humid)

(Josh at the range)

Saturday afternoon we relaxed at a barbecue with our "Officer's Christian Fellowship" group- no pictures because the camera was nowhere to be found for several hours.

Saturday evening we met up with Josh's Academy roommate and Fiance again to watch some fireworks

In an effort to avoid grid lock traffic on the way out of the fireworks, we walked over to an Irish Pub in Pensacola known for their "Boxty's" (fried mashed potatoes with various dipping sauces) to wait for the crowds to dissipate.

The pub is known for having 600,000 dollars (and counting) hanging from the walls and ceilings throughout. Every year they have to take every dollar down to count it for tax purposes.

This coming weekend we look forward to going the "Blue Angel's" airshow at Pensacola Beach....apparently it's a mob but it would be un-Pensacolian to not go :)
