Teddy's First Playdate

Kangaroo and his parents came over for Teddy's first playdate a week ago. Teddy didn't especially like sharing his toys but they had a blast otherwise.

Someone once told us that dogs don't typically have accurate perceptions of how big they are....how big do you think Teddy thinks he is?

Our Teddy Bear

Our newest addition is here! Theodore "Teddy" Albright
The car ride home was a little nerve wracking for the little tyke, he was squirmy and curious- about 5 minutes before we got home he snuggled right up and we discovered how much he likes his belly rubs!

As soon as we got home, Teddy wanted to play, and play, and play- we thought he'd never rest

....until some friends came over and that's all he wanted to do- be held and sleep

such a ham

although Teddy really seems to like him bed, he wants to lay as close as possible to anyone who is willing to touch him....he slid further and further out of his bed as he rested

This morning we took Teddy for his first walk (all yesterday he was enjoying the back yard)- he did great with his first time on the leash, but we didn't realize how long of a walk we had taken him on until he needed to stop to be held and then collapsed on the cool, tile floor when we got home

What a great pup!

We thought Teddy would notice Edgar more (Edgar has certainly noticed him) but it took awhile for them to have their first encounter ;) See video below- Teddy's a little frightened of the ol' man.

No accidents yet, he's let us know every time he's needed to go and made it through the whole night in his kennel (none too thrilled to spend some time in the klinker, however, still no accidents)

Teddy can't wait for his grandparents and Aunt and Uncle to arrive this week- more laps to sleep in ;)

Teddy

We have entertained the idea of having a dog for a little while now and finally decided on a breed that we could agree on for this time in our life- a miniature schnauzer (maybe a bigger dog when Josh is non-deployable). After looking into rescues (as we both love the idea of rescuing a dog, however, we were picky about the breed we might rescue-naturally narrowing the search), we were not able to find a dog that would suit our phase of life. We located some breeders in the Florida area and decided to continue to ponder this in our hearts and pray about our decision-a big change in responsibility.

Meanwhile, every once in awhile we checked the schnauzer rescue and a few other no-kill rescues. A week ago, we found a 10 week old miniature schnauzer that is being fostered about an hour away. After waiting to hear back from our landlord for permission to have a dog, we finally had the opportunity to visit the little guy tonight! He was so sweet, as were his sister and brother (going to their forever homes this saturday). He is a purebred miniature schnauzer who beat the odds after his mother was surrendered mid pregnancy, went into pre-term labor as a result of stress, and had a whole host of medical issues afterward. 5 of the 7 pups survived and had to be bottle fed. Our potential pup has been living in his foster home since his birth (the mother has a new home now) and is the leader of the pack. We are hoping that if all goes well we may adopt him this Saturday!

...Josh's choice of name would be Theodore- nicknamed "Teddy"...I think it's a great choice :)

...more to come
