Two years ago, on the fourteenth of this month, Josh and I began our new life together as a married couple! We couldn't wait to start the rest of our lives together and have had an incredible two years of marriage.
So many things have happened in such a short period of time, and each moment has made our marriage all the more rich! Whether it was the newness of living together in Baltimore and all the fun details of "playing house" together (cooking, coming home to each other each day, having friends over for couple dates, and just simply enjoying routine), or the challenges of moving to a new area of the country and really learning what it means to cleave to your husband in all areas (i.e. not calling your father when you are in the middle of a rain storm, have two flat tires, and your husband is underneath the car trying to fix said tires while you are on the phone whining to your father instead of calling a cab or a tire place to actually physically help the situation!) We have created so many memories together and look forward to what's next- even if there are many more tire blowouts in our future!
In the midst of the wonderful experiences of marriage and life, we have also been reminded that "Marriage is for our good, but is is first for God's glory." (When Sinners Say I Do,Dave Harvey, p. 25) Unfortunately, we are also reminded that, as sinners, we are constantly making our marriage about ourselves and what we want, instead of God's glory- it is that kind of thinking that makes life a little(or a lot)messy!
Josh and I read the book "When Sinners Say I Do" (Dave Harvey) when we were first married and frequently return to it, as it reminds us that we wake up with the worst of sinners each day (and no, it's not the person laying next to me in bed-it's me!) This book has transformed how we see our marriage, interact with one another, and of course, our relationship with God. We can rejoice because: "we may be works in progress who are painfully prone to sin, yet we can be joyful works, for- thanks be to God- we have been redeemed by grace through the death and resurrection of Christ." (p. 38)
Josh and I will celebrate our anniversary this weekend in Orlando at Sea World for a few days. We can't wait to get away! On the fourteenth we went out for dinner at a little sandwich cafe nearby, and as we were eating, we coudln't believe our ears when we heard our first dance song playing on the radio "Better Together" (Jack Johnson). It is the little things in life that make us smile!
